iPod Touch Not Recognized by PPC iMac G5

Here's the deal: Sammi gets a new iPod Touch for her birthday. It's never been synced with any computer before. We have an iMac PowerPC G5 running the latest Tiger OSX and the latest iTunes version. We plug the Touch into the iMac and...... nothing. We swap cables; same thing..... nada. We plug the Touch into another computer (MacBook running Leopard and latest iTunes) and it is recognized immediately. What's up with that??? Sammi is very disappointed. Her iTunes library is on that iMac. Should I reinstall iTunes?
