Okay....
1. Yes. I created a new account with no problems.
2. The Touch is connected to the USB ports on the back of he iMac. We've tried both ports - same reaction to both....nada.
3. Sammi's Nano is recognized under two different accounts on the same iMac. So, the answer is yes.
We've tried different iPod cables.... no change. When the Touch is connected to my MacBook, my Macbook sees it fine. The only thing I can think of (and I failed to mention this last night) is that when Sammi initially opened up the Touch packaging, she tried to plug it into an old firewire power adapter. When it failed to respond (show that it was charging) and when she saw on the screen that the adapter was the wrong one, she unplugged it and found a USB charger and left the Touch charging most of the evening.
That's about it! Is there any way that the firewire adapter could have tripped something that prevents it from being recognized??? I'm thinking not, especially since my MacBook recognizes the Touch, but you never know.....
==========
I had a feeling of deja vu reading this, because someone posted a while back to the local Mac User Group board about the same thing. The woman never answered all our follow-up questions, though, just did whatever the heck she felt like, so I don't know what the resolution was.
Anyway, three very important questions are:
1. Does this iMac respond if you create a new user account and log in to that one?
2. Is the touch plugged directly into one of the iMac's USB ports? If you've only tried through a hub or the keyboard, try going directly in, unplugging something else for this test if necessary.
3. Does this iMac respond to other iPods?
